Meet The Owner and Lead Therapist
Dr. Hallie Afentakis
Owner, Lead Therapist
Be the change you want to see in the world. And help others find their resilience, their own ability to change, and adapt for the better. For the last two decades, that has been Dr. Hallie's mantra. In everything she does, she asks herself and others what she can change to be better and do better towards herself and those around her. Perseverance for that change, hope for the future, and first and foremost, her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, have carried her through the challenges of her life. A demanding career path, marriage, motherhood, miscarriage and everything else along the way inspired Dr. Hallie to lean on the words of Jeremiah 29:11 and Isaiah 40:31. Sometimes, one might assume that with the Lord, everything should always be good and somewhat easy. However, His message in both scriptures is more about resilience. His plan never changes and yes, there is always hope for our future in the Lord. But as Dr. Hallie would say, our understanding of perseverance in Christ, and the daily choice for His Grace, deepens and grows with the trials He allows us to navigate.
As the owner of Plan for Resilience Physical Therapy and Wellness, L.L.C., Dr. Hallie aims to help others change the way they see themselves. She is passionate about helping others change from "I can't" to "I can. From "I was told I could never do that again," to "I did that, and it didn't hurt me."
Dr. Hallie Afentakis is a 757 native, graduating from Portsmouth Christian High School. She then graduated with honors from James Madison University with a B.S. in Health Sciences, where she was a teaching assistant for multiple courses. She earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy and passed the Virginia Licensing Board Examination for Physical Therapy in 2012. Since then, she has worked in Hospital, Skilled, and Outpatient settings, with the most years in the latter. In addition to general orthopedic conditions, she has developed several niches which include persistent pain, TMD, Concussion/vestibular issues and care of the fitness forward athlete. Additionally, she has an Applied Prevention Health Promotion Therapies Certification, meaning she treats every client with a comprehensive approach to overall health, in context of his/her issue for which they seek services. Most recently, she is interested in the pregnant, peripartum and postpartum woman from the lens of her personal experience as a natural home birther.
In the words of Dr. Hallie, “When you come to PFR Physical Therapy and Wellness, expect to be treated as a whole person, as a human with whom we seek to establish an uplifting and lasting relationship towards your resilience.”
